Elucidating trends and drivers of neonatal mortality stagnation in Nepal
Analyzed DHS 2016 and 2022 data to uncover why neonatal mortality progress has slowed and where policy levers can accelerate gains. The study identifies key determinants such as maternal education, antenatal care visits, and institutional delivery as critical factors for further reducing neonatal mortality.
Inequalities in antenatal care service utilization in Nepal
This study aimed to evaluate disparities in ANC service utilization among Nepalese women based on wealth, caste/ethnicity, and province, using data from the nationally representative Nepal Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) conducted in 2014 and 2019. Findings indicate that while ANC utilization increased, significant wealth-related and ethnic inequalities persist, with women from wealthier households and advantaged groups being much more likely to receive recommended care.
Sleep quality is associated with stress among secondary school students
investigated the prevalence of poor sleep quality and its association with stress among secondary school students. The study provides evidence on the mental health challenges faced by adolescents and suggests interventions to improve sleep hygiene and stress management in school settings.
Functional ability index for older adults (equal contribution)
A multicohort study developing and validating a functional ability index to guide geriatric care. The index integrates various domains of functioning to provide a comprehensive measure of health for older adults, aiming to improve personalized care strategies.
Longitudinal study on quaternary ammonium compounds (equal contribution)
Linked COVID-19 stringency indicators to sludge mass loads, informing environmental risk mitigation. The research tracked mass loads of quaternary ammonium compounds in sewage sludge, finding associations with disinfectant usage patterns during the pandemic.
Phthalate esters in sewage sludge (equal contribution)
Explored association between public health measures and environmental contaminants during COVID-19. The study analyzed the concentrations of phthalate esters in wastewater treatment plants, highlighting the environmental impact of increased plastic use and hygiene measures.
Pediatric cardiovascular outcomes in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease
Examined the relationship between metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and cardiovascular structures in pediatric populations. The study underscores the importance of early management of liver disease to prevent cardiovascular complications in children.
Determinants of institutional delivery service utilization in Nepal
Assessed the contextual and individual factors associated with institutional delivery in Nepal. Utilizing national survey data, the study highlights disparities based on geography, education, and wealth, recommending targeted interventions to increase safe delivery practices.
Minimum acceptable diet among children aged 6–23 months in Nepal
Investigated the prevalence and predictors of minimum acceptable diet (MAD) among young children in Nepal using DHS data. The study found low rates of adequate dietary diversity and meal frequency, emphasizing the need for nutritional education and food security programs.
Severe acute malnutrition and associated factors among children under five
A facility-based cross-sectional study identifying risk factors for severe acute malnutrition (SAM) in children. Key predictors included inappropriate feeding practices and recurrent infections, suggesting that community-based nutritional interventions are vital.
